Kenya 7s suffered a 21-19 defeat against Uruguay, which resulted in them finishing at the bottom of Pool C of the Vancouver 7s.

Uruguay, who had caused an upset by beating Fiji in their previous match, were determined to secure a win to boost their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Kenya were eager to secure their first win of the tournament and prevent Uruguay from creating a gap between them in the relegation play-off race.

Uruguay opened the scoring with a try by Baltazar Amaya in the first minute, taking a 7-0 lead. Kenya responded quickly with an unconverted try by Nelson Oyoo. Brian Tanga then scored Kenya’s second try before Uruguay scored and converted to take a 14-12 lead.

In the second half, Uruguay extended their lead to 21-12 with a try from Felipe Arcos Perez and conversion. However, Oyoo managed to score his second try of the match thanks to brilliant speed on the right wing, which was converted, bringing Kenya within two points of Uruguay.

Despite Kenya’s efforts, Uruguay managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle, securing the win. They will now have to wait for the outcome of the Fiji vs Great Britain match, with a Fiji loss potentially sending Uruguay through to the quarterfinals.
