New Zealand solidified its position as the top team in the World 7s Series after winning the Sydney tournament and earning maximum points.

This has moved them to 85 points on the standings, with South Africa following close behind at 76 points. Samoa and France are tied for third place with 68 points. The top four teams at the end of the season will qualify for the Olympic Sevens in Paris.

Fiji and Argentina are tied for fifth place with 67 points, while the USA have dropped to seventh place with 66 points.

The rest of the top 10 includes defending champions Australia with 62 points, Ireland with 58 points, and Great Britain with 35 points.

Outside the top 10, Uruguay sit in 11th place with 24 points, followed by Kenya with 21 points, both of whom are trying to avoid the relegation play-off positions.

Other teams in the relegation playoff zone include Spain with 18 points, Canada with 14 points, and Japan with 6 points.

How will relegation be decided from the men’s Series 2023?

The 15th ranked core team based on accumulated Series points following the tenth round in Toulouse will be relegated. The teams ranked 12th, 13th and 14th at the end of Toulouse will enter a four-team relegation play-off together with the Challenger Series 2023 winners at the eleventh and final round of the Series in London.

The relegation play-off will be round-robin format with the top two teams then playing a final. The winner will become the 12th core team on the 2024 Series, while the other three teams will enter their respective Regional Sevens Championships in order to qualify for the 2024 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series. The Challenger Series will continue to provide a pathway for teams to qualify for the World Rugby Sevens Series.
