Menengai Oilers Head coach Gibson Weru has been nominated for the Sportsman of the Year Awards (SOYA).
Weru had an impressive 2022 where he led Menengai Oilers to the first ever National 7s Circuit in 2022 7s campaign. His side accumulated 113 points and were also crowned Champions at Prinsloo 7s.
The former Kenyan International also led the Nakuru based side to the first ever Kenya Cup final where they lost 34-28 to Kabras RFC.
Dennis Mwanja nominated
Kenya Lionesses Head Coach Dennis Mwanja has also been nominated for the award . Mwanja won the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya coach of the month award in November.
It was after he led the Kenya Lionesses to victory in Pool B of the Rugby Africa Cup in the November International season, qualifying them for the 2023 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup Championship.
The Lionesses defeated Uganda 23-3 at Wankulukuku Stadium in Kampala after defeating Zambia 36-17 to earn nine points.

Mwanja was also in charge of the side in World 7s Challenger Series as their qualification hopes ended following a semi-final loss loss to Japan.
The 2022 Sports Personality of the Year gala Awards (SOYA) will be held on January 20, 2023 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
