Kakamega School defeat Senende in friendly match

National 15s Champions Kakamega School defeated Vihiga County’s Senende Boys 15-7 in a friendly match played on Saturday.

The Barbarians who won the 2019 National and East African Title landed three unconverted tries in the win over Senende.

Roykeane’s try

Fly-half Roykeane Chisutia sold a dummy off a ruck and sliced through the Senende defence for the first try. Ayumba Aggrey’s conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Evans Wekesa scored the Barbarians’ second try, but Ayumba’s second conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Jeff Akhura scored Kakamega’s final try, with Ayumba once again missing the target.

Godfrey Aliaga pulled back for the Senende boys in spectacular fashion, dancing all the way through Kakamega’s defense and scoring a try under the posts. He got up and converted his own try for a seven-pointer.

Wamanga delighted

Kakamega’s Coach Amos Wamanga expressed his delight in the friendly and thanked the Principal for facilitating it.

“I was happy to see the boys back in action and we were able to gauge a few things and areas of improvement. I  would like to say Thank you, Mr Principal, for facilitating and supporting the Friendly,” he told the Scrummage Africa.

Kakamega School, which has shifted its focus to 15s rugby in recent years, have quiet for the better part of 2022. They skipped the Prescott Cup, which was later won by Chavakali School.

Their last competitive tournament was the Yala Opens where they lost 12-3 to the fast-rising Koyonzo Boys in the final. They are currently preparing for the 2023 competitions where they will be hoping to defend the KSSSA titles won in 2019.

The 2022 Bradley Tournament (Kamusinga Tourney) winners will be keen to feature in more matches to get ready for the school games and defend the County, Western Region, National and Regional titles.

For the past 21 years, rugby 15s has been a core sport at Kakamega School, where they have won a record eight titles and have made it to the finals a record ten times. They have also excelled in the shorter version and the sport has helped to keep the school on the regional map.
