Kenya Simbas fly-half Jone Kubu is expected to miss the 2023 Rugby World Cup final qualification tournament.

The Fijian-born Kenya International picked a wrist injury on Saturday in a training match played at RFUEA Grounds as the Green team beat the Red Team 33-27. His injury comes with less than 30 days to the Final Qualification tournament slated for Dubai next month.

Injury management

Kenya Simbas Team Manager Jimmy Mnene said the injury management has begun, but he believes that the player will not be ready for Repechage.

“It’s obviously tough for Kubu having sustained an injury to his left wrist during the training match on 22 October 22. Management of the injury has commenced and we shall monitor his progress. As a technical team lead by Paul Odera, we shall walk the journey with him,”  Jimmy Mnene said in a statement posted by Kenya Simbas.

“I am not 100 per cent sure in terms of what date he will return to training and return to play would be but I know he is out of the Simbas Repechage campaign. I wish him all the best in his recovery.”  he added.

It will be a big blow for the Simbas as they are expected to be without Dominic Coulson who started in all the Rugby Africa Cup matches.

Kubu has been a key member of the Simbas team since making his debut against Senegal in the Rugby Africa Cup Group stage matches in 2021.
