Australia are the 2022 World 7s Series Champions thanks to a third-place finish in the Los Angeles 7s held at the Dignity Park.

It marks their first ever World 7s Series title in their history.

The elimination of South Africa in the group stages blew the World Series wide open, with the Australians making their way into the semi-finals with an emphatic win over Kenya.

However, a defeat to Fiji meant they needed to defeat Samoa to win in the bronze medal match.

Editor’s pick:

The combination of Corey Toole and Dietrich Roache proved lethal as they raced out to a 14-7 lead at the break before Roache sealed the win.

It’s the first time the Men’s program have won the World Series, denying Fiji a shot at the crown as they prepare to face New Zealand in the final.

To finish third in LA, Australia beat Samoa 21-7 in the bronze. Dietrich Roache and Corey Toole combined to hit back as Toole crossed over to tie the scores at 7-7.

Henry Paterson then took advantage of a loose ball and raced away to score for a 14-7 lead.

Dietrich Roache extended the margin after waves of attacking opportunities and penalties and it was enough to earn them the title.

Due to the effects of the global epidemic, the 2022 Series features a unique Series scoring system in which each team’s end-of-season total is derived by taking their best seven results from the nine Series events.
