Koyonzo High School Rugby team have won Kakamega County Rugby 7s schools title thanks to a 17-5 win over St Peter Mumias in matches played at St Peter Mumias Grounds on Saturday.
The win has seen the side retain the crown they had won in 2020 after defeating Mukumu Boys. Koyonzo needed three tries and converted one to bag the title.
Three tries
Brandon Mulefu, Juston Keta, and Victor Wawire all scored in the triumph over St Peter’s, who only managed an unconverted try.
Koyonzo which is assisted by Bordderrucks Head Coach Oscar Okaron eliminated former giants Musingu in the semis following a 27-5 win while they beat Makhokho 31-0 in the quarterfinal.
St Peters beat Kivaywa 40-0 in the quarters and beat Mukumu 24-0 in the semis to book a place in the final.

Speaking on his boys’ performance in the competition, Koyonzo coach Elly Okwemba said: “The Boys did what we expected them to do. We are happy with their display and after back-to-back County titles, we now hope to win the regionals,” he told The Scummage Africa.
Mukumu settled for the third spot after a 21-12 over Musingu High School. The top three sides are expected to feature in the Regional Games set for St Peters Mumias next weekend.
Kakamega School who in recent years have focused on 15s Rugby saw their side fail to reach the knockout stage for another year. The East African 15s Champions and other sides that have been knocked out of the competition now shift focus to 15s rugby which is expected to return in 2023.
