Rugby on the Road’s outstanding performance during the Chebarbar 7s on Saturday at the Eldoret Sports Club was lauded by Kenya Harlequins Coach Paul ‘Pau’ Murunga.

The side won 34-10 against Arsonists Wazalendo, former Moi University players.

Speaking to Scrummage Africa after the competition, the former Kenya 7’s coach expressed his satisfaction with Rugby on the Road.

“We came here for one goal, to play and win, and they haven’t disappointed. They have played so well. Winning 34-10 in the finals is a big achievement,” he said.

WHAT THE WIN MEANS

Pau considers the team’s 34-10 victory in the final to be a significant accomplishment and a sign of Rugby on the Road’s potential.

“This means that Rugby on the Road is a very good side,” Pau said.  “They (players) haven’t even trained together but we just picked some of the players that we think are able to gel with each other and play together”.

WHO WAS IN THE RUGBY ON THE ROAD SQUAD?

The Rugby on the Road team, coached by Pau consisted of different players from various teams in the country. Eliakim Kichoi of Mwamba RFC served as the captain of the squad. Ronnie Omondi, who assists Eliakim with his duties at Mwamba was also included in the squad. Christie 7s Top Try Scorer Patrick Odongo was also in the squad.

Cornelius Mukoro, George Ooro, Gabriel Ayimba, Alfred Orege and Joel Inzuga were also part of the team.

“I think we assembled a very strong side, upcoming players that in the near future some of you will be seeing in the Shujaa team.“

“Moving forward is to work on the skills of the same players and ensure that when they get to the Shujaa team they are in a better position to play at the international level.”
