Uganda Rugby will field two development teams at the 2026 Burundi Regional 7s, set to take place in Bujumbura on 4 July, as the union continues to strengthen its national team pathway and expose emerging talent to international competition.

The men’s Under-23 side, under the guidance of Isaac Massanganzira, and the women’s development team, coached by Edmond Quaresma, will depart for Bujumbura on Thursday, 2 July. Both teams will face regional opposition from Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania in the one-day tournament.

Uganda Rugby’s Chief Technical Officer, Ramsey Olinga, said the tournament forms an important part of the union’s long-term player development strategy.

“This Regional Tournament is essential for our development. We want to see which players are next in line for both the men’s and women’s teams and build a strong pipeline of athletes for the future,” Olinga said.

The women’s squad includes Akello Tina, Namono Minat, Josephine Shaine, Anguchia Justine, Kateesa Gertrude, Namutebi Bushira, Nabaggala Grace, Nemira Peace, Mukyala Proscovia, Namulala Unity, Tiko Latifah and Mulonde Hope.
