St. Peter’s Mumias were crowned Kakamega County Schools Rugby 7s champions after a hard-fought 14-5 victory over Mukumu in the final played at Booker Academy on Saturday.
The Saints, who are also the reigning National and East African champions, showed their class early, scoring a first-half try to take the lead. They extended their advantage with another try in the second half before Mukumu responded with a late consolation to settle the score at 14-5.
Nicknamed the “Rough Machines,” St. Peter’s reclaimed the county title they missed last year, when they fell 24-12 to Musingu.
On their path to the final, St. Peter’s delivered dominant performances, thrashing Kilimani 36-14 in the quarterfinals before edging out a spirited Butere side 28-21 in a closely contested semifinal.

Mukumu booked their place in the final after impressive wins over Lubinu in the quarterfinals and a narrow 21-19 victory over defending champions Musingu in the semifinals.
St. Peter’s, Mukumu, Musingu, and Koyonzo are now set to represent Kakamega County at the regional championships.
