Kenya 7s launched their SVNS 2 campaign in São Paulo in emphatic fashion, thrashing Germany 38-7 at Estádio Nicolau Alayon to avenge last weekend’s loss and boost their promotion push to the World SVNS Championship.

The clash marked the third meeting between the two sides this season. Shujaa had edged the Nairobi leg with an extra-time winner, while Germany responded with victory in Montevideo. Heading into this encounter, Kenya were determined to start strongly and enhance their chances of finishing in the top three.

Germany struck first in the second minute, with Jakob Dipper beating Festus Shiasi on the outside to score. The conversion was successful, giving the Europeans a 7-0 lead.

Shujaa responded swiftly, as Patrick Odongo latched onto a well-weighted kick from Samuel Asati to score, with the conversion leveling the scores at 7-7. From the restart, Kevin Wekesa secured possession, allowing Kenya to build phase play before Shiasi delivered a long pass to Vincent Onyala, who touched down and added the extras.

Kenya extended their lead to 21-7 when co-captain George Ooro released Odongo, who sliced through the defence with pace to score his second try of the match.

In the second half, Shujaa maintained control, pinning Germany deep before forcing a turnover. Onyala capitalized on a short ball to dive over for another try, stretching the lead to 26-7.

The East Africans continued to dominate, retaining possession from the restart and shifting play wide to Ooro, who sprinted over to make it 31-7. Dennis Abukuse then capped off a fine team performance, bursting through the defence to score under the posts and seal a 38-7 victory.

Despite a temporary setback with Wekesa sent to the sin bin, Shujaa remained composed to secure a commanding win and a perfect start to their campaign.
