South Africa clinched their 12th Africa Women’s 7s title after a dominant 22-0 victory over the Kenya Lionesses at the RFUEA Grounds.
The win also secures their promotion to the SVNS Series Division Three next season as they continue their quest to climb back up the global sevens ladder.
South Africa in Africa Women’s 7s
With high stakes on the line, Coach Cecil Afrika’s charges were determined to retain continental supremacy and avenge their loss to the Lionesses at this year’s Challenger Series.
The Lionesses, meanwhile, were chasing only their second Africa 7s crown, having last lifted the trophy in 2018. They have finished as runners-up seven times, including in 2023 and 2024.
South Africa entered the final in imperious form, boasting four straight wins and an impeccable defensive record, having not conceded a single point throughout the tournament.
Kenya were also unbeaten in four, though tested heavily by Uganda and advancing courtesy of a last-minute score.
As expected, the opening half was tightly contested, with both sides showing defensive resilience and denying each other clear scoring chances.
Kenya suffered a setback when speedster Janet Okello was forced off with an injury, prompting Edith Nariaka to step in.
South Africa finally broke the deadlock in the dying seconds of the first half when Shiniqwa Lamprecht sliced through the defence to score the opening try, which was converted for a 7–0 halftime lead.

Just two minutes into the second half, Nadine Roos set up Simamkele Namba, who raced over the line to extend the advantage to 12–0.
Substitute Patience Mokone then made an instant impact, powering over to stretch the lead to 17–0 and silence the home crowd.
The Blitzboks Women sealed the emphatic victory with a final-minute try, completing the 22–0 shutout.
In the third-place playoff, Uganda claimed the bronze medal with a 33–12 win over Madagascar.
