Kenya Forest lifted the 2025 Bungoma 7s title after a solid 17-5 win over Kisumu in a thrilling final played on Saturday, June 28, at Bungoma High School.
Due to a heavy downpour on that Saturday, organizers were forced to adjust the schedule, cancelling the quarterfinal stage to ensure the event concluded on time. Despite the weather disruption, the tournament delivered an action-packed day of rugby.
Bungoma 7s Champions Fine Run
The champions were in fine form from the start, overpowering Bulls 29-5 in their opening match and later seeing off Kisiwa 26-7. In the semifinal, they faced a determined Shamberere side but held firm to secure a 17-5 victory and a place in the final.
Kisumu also had a strong run in the tournament. They began with a narrow 17-14 win over Wanjabi, before registering dominant victories over Kabuchai (36-0) and Nalondo (29-0). A hard-fought 12-10 win over MMUST in the semifinals sent them into the final, where they met their match in Kenya Forest.

In the girls’ category, Shamberere were the standout team. They cruised past Nalondo 31-0 in the semifinal and stormed to the title with a commanding 42-0 win over Namanja in the final. Kisiwa secured third place after beating Nalondo 7-0 in the playoff.
The age-grade exhibition match between Lugulu and Bungoma ended in a 15-15 draw, showcasing the promising talent coming through the ranks.
