The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has appointed Harriet Okach as the new Chairperson to serve the remainder of the current term.
Her appointment follows the resignation of Alexander “Sasha” Mutai, who stepped down on Friday, 30th May at the RFUEA Grounds.
In her acceptance remarks, Harriet expressed gratitude and called for unity in the sport:
“I’m humbled to be entrusted with this position. Thank you to the affiliates, the KRU Board, and all stakeholders for your support. To our secretariat and the playing component, thank you for focusing on keeping the game going in spite of all the turmoil. To our fans and all stakeholders—sports unites, so please let’s all come together in growing this game that we all love. Asante sana.”
Harriet first joined the KRU Board during the 2023 Annual General Meeting, held at the RFUEA Grounds, where she garnered the highest number of votes for any board member.

Prior to her election to the board, she served as Honorary Treasurer at Kisumu RFC. Since joining the board, she has been the Director in charge of Marketing and Commercial, where she has led efforts to boost the game’s visibility and secure new partnerships.

Outside the rugby sphere, Harriet is an accomplished entrepreneur and communications strategist with more than 15 years of experience across both the public and private sectors.
She also represents Kenya on the international stage, having been selected as one of 12 African women participating in World Rugby’s Impact Beyond 2025 legacy project. Under her leadership, Kenya’s grassroots initiative, Unstoppable Rugby for Change, continues to harness the power of rugby to combat gender-based violence and promote education for the girl child in underserved communities.
