List of 2025 Scrummage Katch 7s award winners

The 2025 Scrummage Katch 7s tournament, held from May 17th to 18th at the Kakamega Showground, ended on a high with top individual talents earning recognition for their outstanding performances.

In the girls’ category, Velma Chebet of Santa Maria Secondary School was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) after leading her team to an unbeaten run and ultimately lifting the title. Santa Maria, hailing from Elgeyo Marakwet, dominated the round-robin format with disciplined defence and sharp attack.

Jane Carolina of Chakol Girls was recognised as the Most Promising Player, showcasing potential throughout the tournament. Bishop Sulumeti’s Virginia Awuor was the Top Try Scorer, finishing the tournament with the highest number of tries.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

In the boys’ category, Thomas Okiidi of Butere Boys emerged as the MVP, putting in commanding performances across the tournament. Eric Mbakaya of Koyonzo High School claimed the Top Try Scorer award, playing a key role in helping his school defeat Kabras RFC U19 squad 10-0 in the final to win the tournament.

Cyril Andayi of Kabras was named the Most Promising Player.

The Scrummage Katch 7s in its second edition this year, continues to grow as a vital platform for identifying and rewarding rugby talent, especially as schools prepare for the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two Games.

The tournament was made possible thanks to KipMeFit Gym, Tropical Tasker, Zabab Furnished studios, Amazon Entertainment and Kabras RFC who provided the venue.
