Kabras RFC extended their unbeaten run to 38 matches in the Kenya Cup since February 2022, narrowly defeating Menengai Oilers 20-14 in a hard-fought encounter at Nakuru ASK Grounds.

Despite failing to secure a bonus point for the second consecutive weekend, Kabras maintained their dominance over Oilers, stretching their unbeaten streak against them to eight matches since the latter’s promotion to the top tier.

The victory also ensured that Kabras preserved their 100% win record in Nakuru City since their promotion in 2014.

The match began with Menengai Oilers taking the initiative, as they quickly claimed the opening try to lead 5-0 through playmaker Samuel Mwaura. They then extended their lead to 8-0 when Timothy Omela slotted a penalty.

However, Kabras RFC responded strongly and came close before winning a penalty, which Ntabeni Dukisa successfully converted, narrowing the gap to 8-3.

Kabras then surged ahead for the first time in the match when Brian Tanga tapped a quick penalty, broke through the defence, and touched down for their first try. Dukisa added the extras, putting Kabras ahead 10-8.

Oilers continued to capitalize on penalties in the Kabras 22, with Omela adding another penalty to extend their lead to 14-10.

Kabras narrowed the gap with a penalty just before halftime, making it 14-13 in favor of the Oilers.

The second half saw both sides engaged in a tightly contested battle, with Oilers disrupting most of Kabras’ attacking attempts.

In the end, it was Dukisa who made the decisive impact, scoring a crucial try that pushed Kabras to a 20-14 lead after slicing through the defence.

The win leaves Kabras with 48 points ahead of their crucial regular-season finale against KCB.
