Uganda suffer 1st defeat on Safari 7s day 3

Reigning champions Uganda lady cranes were handed their first defeat of the tournament as the 2024 Safari 7s women’s category concluded with its final three matches ahead of the semis at the Kenyatta stadium, Machakos.

Uganda were handed their first defeat of the tournament suffering a 12-10 loss from Coasta Blanca Barbarians.

Morales Silvia was the first to score for the Barbarians with Stella Juana making no mistakes in the conversion for a 7-0 lead.

Uganda’s speedster Unity earned her name on the scoresheet but missed on the conversion bringing the scores to 7-5 in favour of Barbarians at halftime.

The second half saw Barbarians extend their lead to 12-5 with a try but missed on the conversion while Tina Okello came in with a try for Uganda in the dying minutes of the game and missed on the conversion thus suffering a 12-10 loss from Barbarians, their first in the tournament.

Kenya Lionesses beat their Kenyan counterparts Kenya Cubs 26-00 where Faith Livoi scored the first try for Lionesses with the conversion sailing through for a 7-0 lead.

Maureen Muritu then capitalised on a defensive lapse on the Kenya Cubs side scoring the second try for Lionesses making matters to be 14-00.

Yvette Okatch stepped inside and beat Markers to score a superb try with Sinaida adding the extras before Ann Njeri sealed Lionesses win making it 26-00 at full-time.

In the other match Shogun had an impressive showdown beating Uganda II 19-00 to book a place in the semis.
