Heathens, Pirates thrash opponents on Rujumba 7s day one

The 2024 Uganda 7s Series final round-Rujumba 7s day one was off to a flying start with Heathens and Pirates registering 100% records in matches played at the King’s Park Arena, Bweyogerere.

Heathens, the most successful rugby club in the competition’s history with eleven titles began the day by humbling Elgon Wolves 43-00 as Rhinos got a 20-00 walkover over Impis RFC, Walukuba managed a 48-12 win over Rams, Buffaloes stun Juba Eagles 31-00.

Mongers beat Warriors 24-07 while Kobs won 61-00 over Kisubi Pacers, Hippos defeated Sailors 26-21 and tries from Roy Kizito who scored two same to Haruna Muhamad, Paul Bogota, Allan Karuhanga, Isaac Jaden and Timothy Kisiga who made three conversions enabled Pirates to seal a 41-00 win over Jaguars.

In the second round Heathens continued bullying opponents this time thrashing Sailors 31-00, Elgon Wolves managed a 19-17 win over Hippos whereas Rhinos defeated Jaguars 29-05.

Pirates thrashed Impis 52-00, Walukuba Barbarians defeated Juba Eagles 24-00, Buffaloes beat 14-12, Mongers recorded a 52-00 huge win over Kisubi pacers whereas Mbarara 7s Kobs were handed a 12-5 defeat by Warriors.

Round three had exciting results with Sailors managing their first win of the day by defeating Elgon Wolves 28-14 and in a thrilling encounter Pirates beat Rhinos 24-07 handing them their first defeat.

In the only draw of the day, Impis registered a 12-12 draw over Jaguars as Heathens recorded their third straight win by edging out Hippos 21-00.

Tries from Liam Walker, Meddi Abdallah and a Conversion from Walker did not help the Buffaloes seal a win in their last game of the day as they suffered a 17-12 defeat over Walukuba Barbarians.

Kobs managed a 17-5 win over Mongers, Rams beat Juba Eagles 26-05 while in the last match of the day Warriors defeated the Kisubi Pacers 14-07.

The grand finale of the 2024 Uganda 7s series continues on Sunday with the title race between Heathens and Pirates heating up, the second day of the Rujumba 7s promises to be an entertaining day where the overall winner will be crowned.
