Kenya 7s have been knocked out of the Paris Olympics Rugby 7s after a 26-0 loss to Samoa in the final group stage match in Paris, marking three straight defeats.
Shujaa had lost the opening two matches and were on two points. Their hope was to secure a good scoreline against Samoa to keep their chances of sneaking into the quarters alive.
Kenya 7s backfoot
However, it was Samoa who enjoyed possession in the opening minutes and put Kenya on the back foot. Despite Shujaa surviving the first onslaught, they couldn’t stop Samoa’s second attack, which saw Motu Opetai land the opener.
Samoa denied Kenya many visits to their half, and Kenya lost Kevin Wekesa to a yellow card for two minutes. Samoa could have landed the second try just before the break, but Patrick Odongo put in a good shift to stop Apelu Maliko.
In the second half, Kenya were caught offside, and a quick tap by Paul Scanlan resulted in an easy try, which was converted for a 12-0 lead.

Samoa held onto possession, disrupting Kenya 7s efforts as the fans continued to push them. Anthony Mboya was yellow-carded as Kenya continued to struggle with forward play.
A try from Vaa Apelu Maliko and a last-minute one from Steve Onosai were enough to eliminate Kenya 7s. Kenya will now head to the ninth place semis.
