Uganda completed a double in Mauritius, securing the 2024 Africa Men’s 7s title in a thrilling 20-17 final win over South Africa at Labourdonnais Sports Grounds in Mauritius.
Tolbert Onyango’s charges won all 12 of their matches throughout the tournament, earning their fourth Africa Men’s 7s title.
Uganda 7s run
The Ugandans were already champions and had booked a place in the 2025 Challenger Series, aiming to maintain their impressive run in Mauritius.
Heading into the final, Uganda was keen to complete a double over South Africa after last weekend’s 12-0 win in the semifinals. They started off impressively, landing a try on the right side. They extended their lead when Alex Aturinda doubled it, diving over at the left corner for a 10-0 advantage.
Joubert Schoeman responded for South Africa, racing clear from his half, but they missed the conversion attempt. Dennis Etwau then scored at the left corner, giving Uganda a 15-5 lead.

South Africa came back stronger in the second half, with Ricardo Duarttee racing to score. Continued pressure from South Africa saw them score again through Sebastian Jobb.
However, Uganda won a penalty in South Africa’s zone, and Aaron Ofoywroth’s pick at the back of the scrum saw him land the winning try, sealing the victory for Uganda.
