Kabras RFC fly half Eric Cantona has credited teammates and coaches for playing a big role in his shining on his debut against Homeboyz.
The player who was signed by Kabras RFC from MMUST in the off-season transfer missed the opening three Kenya Cup matches after being preferred as a starter for the Eric Shirley Shield side.
Cantona Kabras RFC start
Though he had featured in the 7s campaign where the club finished second, the playmaker had to wait longer for his senior 15s debut. Cantona was among four Kabras players who made their Kenya Cup debut on Saturday 13, January against Homeboyz RFC scored a brace of tries and contributed eight conversions for a remarkable total of 26 points in their 71-6 win.
Speaking to the club’s media following the impressive debut, he attributed his fine start to the confidence instilled by coaches and teammates.
“I had waited long for the debut and I always believe that when you get the opportunity, especially in a club like Kabras, you have to utilise it. My teammates and the coaches also played a big role in my performance because they believed in me and what I can do, so I was so confident in myself,” he stated.
“I had to wait long for that debut because of the calibre of players who I play the same position with. Also having come to a new system of play, I had to learn a lot of new things. So it took me time to adapt but I finally got there thanks to my teammates and the coaches’ help.

Kabras RFC have Ntabeni Dukisa (though has played at fullback this season) and Jone Kubu as the most preferred starters in the fly-half role and in their absence, Brian Tanga and Barry Robinson have been utilized. The club also has Valerian Tendwa who is yet to make an appearance this season.
With all these top names available for the number 10 jersey Cantona says he’ll not be competing against them for a place in the team but instead will be learning from them. He intends to be consistent to keep his play in the team.
“I am technically not competing with them, I’m learning from them, a lot of things that I know right now, I learnt from them. About keeping my place in the team I believe hard work and consistency will put me up there with the best,” he stated.

As the Kenya Cup 2023/2024 season intensifies, the player is geared towards making outstanding performances and says people should expect more from him as he targets the National team level.
” You should expect more good performances, my goal is still to don the national colors so when this season comes to an end I would wish to get selected for the Simbas,” Cantona said.
