MMUST RFC delivered a commanding performance to secure a comfortable 25-12 win over Kisumu RFC, producing a high-intensity display that earned them a crucial bonus-point victory.

The hosts set the tone early and never looked back, power and precision to overwhelm Kisumu, who struggled to contain MMUST’s attacking threat despite a brief second-half resurgence.

MMUST RFC early start

MMUST RFC were off the mark early in the game as Clarence Hope and Veron Kaburu went over the whitewash, with both tries going unconverted by Flavian Otiyo for a 10–0 lead.

MMUST continued piling on the pressure and minutes later it paid off again, as Hope grabbed his second try of the game, his pace proving too much for the Kisumu defence. Otiyo once again missed the extras, pushing the score to 15–0.

A tactical substitution from Kisumu proved vital when Walter Ambe, replacing Victor Were at scrumhalf, dived over from a ruck to register Kisumu’s first points of the game. David Williams missed the conversion as MMUST continued to lead 15–5.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

MMUST started the second half where they left off when substitute Job Otieno crossed at the corner to hand the hosts their bonus point. Otiyo missed the conversion as the score moved to 20–5.

Moments later, the gap widened further as Veron Kaburu, in similar fashion to his first try, raced to score at the corner. Otiyo again missed the conversion as MMUST opened a commanding 25–5 lead.

Kisumu needed a quick response and they got one, as AAA powered over from a maul to score. David Williams, now handling the kicking duties, added the extras to change the score to 25–12.

Despite a late surge from Kisumu, MMUST held firm in defence to avoid conceding further points and sealed a deserved victory.
