Sigalagala National Polytechnic’s hopes of promotion to the KRU Championship have suffered a major setback after the Leagues and Fixtures Committee (LFC) overturned their quarter-final win against NYS Spades.

Sigalagala had secured a narrow 6-3 victory over NYS Spades in a closely contested quarter-final held at their home grounds and were just one win away from reaching the Championship. However, a protest lodged by NYS Spades has seen the decision reversed.

Following a review, the LFC ruled that Sigalagala fielded an ineligible player during the match, leading to their disqualification from the competition.

“In the match between Sigalagala National Polytechnic and NYS Spades, it was resolved that NYS Spades will advance to the Semi-Finals, and the result of the match will be overturned in their favour,” the LFC stated in an official communique.

The Committee added, “There was sufficient evidence confirming that Sigalagala had fielded ineligible players, a direct contravention of KRU Regulations.”

Meanwhile, the LFC upheld the result of the match between Kabarak University and Administration Police Warriors. AP’s win stands, and they will progress to the semi-finals.

“In the match between Kabarak University and AP Warriors, it was resolved that AP Warriors will advance to the Semi-Finals, and the result of the game will stand as recorded,” the statement read. “The Committee established that there was insufficient evidence to support the claim that AP Warriors fielded an ineligible player.”

The LFC has reminded any aggrieved parties that they may appeal the decisions in accordance with the KRU Regulations.
