Fiji to face Kenya 7s in Singapore 7s final after thrilling win over Argentina

Fiji will battle Kenya 7s in the final of the Singapore 7s after edging out Argentina 33-24 in a thrilling semifinal at the Singapore National Stadium.

The Islanders will take on Shujaa at 2:41 PM East African Time in a repeat of the iconic 2016 Singapore 7s final, which Kenya famously won 30-7 to claim their first-ever World Sevens Series title.

Fiji opponents

Argentina entered the semifinal having already secured the 2024 World Sevens Series title, guaranteed of finishing top in the league phase regardless of the result.

For Fiji, the focus was on sealing second place in the standings—and they did it in style. Marcos Moneta gave Argentina the early lead with a try in the opening minute, but Fiji’s Felipe Sauturaga responded almost immediately to level the scores at 7-7.

Luciano Gonzalez restored Argentina’s lead with a fifth-minute try, but Sakiusa Siqila replied in kind to edge Fiji ahead 14-12. George Bose added another try just before halftime to give Fiji a 19-12 cushion at the break.

In the second half, Sevuloni Mocenacagi extended Fiji’s lead with a converted try to make it 26-12. Tomas Elizalde pulled one back for Argentina in the 10th minute, narrowing the gap to 26-19.

However, Kavekini Tanivanuakula powered through for Fiji’s final try, stretching the score to 33-19 and putting the game out of reach. Mateo Graziano’s late try for Argentina served only as a consolation.
