The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially announced the return of the Prescott Cup 2025, high school rugby competition, set to commence in May 2025.

The tournament according to the Kenya Rugby Union is a key fixture in the country’s rugby calendar, providing an essential platform for secondary school teams to showcase their talent, refine their skills, and contribute to the growth of rugby in Kenya.

KRU has invited all rugby-playing secondary schools to register for the tournament, with the deadline set for 21st March 2025.

In a statement, the union emphasized the tournament’s importance, stating, “The Prescott Cup remains a key pillar in KRU’s commitment to developing young rugby talent and strengthening the pathway from school-level participation to elite performance. We encourage schools to take advantage of this opportunity and be part of an exciting and competitive 2025 season.”

The Prescott Cup returns after the last-minute cancellation of the 2023 edition, which left several schools en route to Nairobi. Originally set for October 12th to 14th at the Ngong RFUEA Grounds, the tournament was ultimately called off.

Last year, the Prescott Cup took place only in Nairobi, Western, and the Rift Valley, with the national competition failing to occur. In Nairobi, Upper Hill claimed the 2024 Prescott Cup title in a thrilling final at RFUEA Ground, narrowly defeating Rift Valley Academy 15-10.

In the Western region, Koyonzo High School defended their title at the Western Prescott Cup, winning all their matches at Kakamega Showground. They secured a close 7-3 victory over Vihiga High School, 2023 finalists.

Koyonzo’s win followed Kabianga Boys High School’s triumph in the Rift Valley Region Prescott Cup, where they defeated Menengai Boys High School 13-0 to become 2024 champions.
