Kenya 7s player John Okoth is excited to be nearing full recovery as the team gears up for the upcoming Hong Kong and Singapore 7s tournaments.

Okoth has missed the opening half of the World 7s Series return following an injury picked in the National 7s Circuit while playing for Menengai Oilers.

Okoth, who made his return to the National 7s Circuit, had an impressive performance at Kabeberi 7s day 1 on August 24, 2024, before suffering an injury and he underwent a Tibia fracture surgery which he had been recovering.

“I’m very excited to be back in training with the rest of the boys. I can’t wait to achieve full fitness and help the team in the upcoming tournaments,” he told KRU media upon start of camp.

Shujaa are currently in Nakuru preparing for the fifth leg of the 2025 HSBC SVNS—Hong Kong 7s, scheduled for March 28th to 30th, 2025, at Kai Tak Stadium. The team has been drawn into a challenging pool alongside Spain, Great Britain, and France.

The squad is looking to bounce back after a disappointing performance in Vancouver, where they finished in 12th place.

Despite this setback, Shujaa have retained the 9th position in the overall standings with 15 points.

The team will aim to secure maximum points in the remaining legs in Hong Kong and Singapore to improve their position and avoid relegation playoffs.
