Menengai Oilers RFC Head Coach Gibson Weru says their win against Kisumu RFC was crucial and he is happy with how his charges performed in the match played on Saturday.
The Oilers were among the biggest winners of day one as they put 76-13 points past Kisumu RFC as they met at Nakuru ASK Showground. He stated that he was happy to claim maximum points though he believes there are areas that they need to improve.
“The win was crucial, earning us 5 points, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement as we prepare for the next match,” the coach told Oilers’ media.
Being their first game of the season, Weru said that he was impressed by his team for their strong set pieces and attack shape for it allowed them to score several tries as Kisumu RFC presented a unique challenge, especially in the first half.

“I was particularly impressed by our solid set pieces and strong attack shape, which allowed us to score several open-play tries. Kisumu RFC presented a unique challenge, especially in the first half, where we struggled to find a rhythm as it was the first game of the season,” Weru added.
Weru added that Menengai’s main goal is to win each game so that they can qualify for the playoffs.
“Focusing on doing the basics well proved critical in securing the win. Looking ahead, our main goal is to win each game and ultimately qualify for the playoffs, with consistency being key to our success.”
Menengai Oilers now shift focus to the second match which will be against Strathmore Leos.
