Kenya Simbas delivered an improved performance to defeat Uganda 21-5 at Kings Park on Saturday evening, securing the Elgon Cup on a 48-30 aggregate.

Pressure was on the Simbas following their narrow 27-25 victory in Nairobi, with many expecting Uganda to pose a significant challenge in the return leg.

However, the visitors silenced their critics with a clinical first-half display and a resolute defensive effort in the second half to emerge victorious.

The Simbas opened the scoring in the third minute through Ephraim Oduor. After several pick-and-drive phases, Oduor powered over the line for a try, which Timothy Okwemba converted to establish a 7-0 lead. Uganda’s Shakim Ssembusi missed a penalty opportunity, leaving the scores unchanged.

In the 18th minute, Kenya extended their advantage through vice-captain Eugene Sifuna. A clever pass from Brian Wahinya, following sustained pressure and a failed clearance attempt by Uganda’s Aaron Ofoywroth, saw Sifuna exploit space and touch down. Okwemba’s conversion made it 14-0.

Kenya’s relentless pressure led to their third try when Andy Cole Omolo forced a knock-on from Uganda’s Conrad Wanyama. The resulting attack culminated in another Wahinya pass this time finding youngster Omolo who dived over for try, taking the score to 21-0 after Okwemba’s extras.

Uganda had a chance to respond when Innocent Gwokto broke through Kenya’s defence, but Alfred Orege’s timely tackle denied the score. Orege was sin-binned for his efforts, yet Uganda failed to capitalize on the numerical advantage as Kenya maintained their 21-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half saw a more determined Ugandan side while Simbas bolstered by the introductions of Jone Kubu and Sam Onsomu, among others. Despite their efforts, the Kenyan defence stood firm, preventing any significant breakthroughs.

Uganda managed a late consolation try through Sydney Gongodyo, who fend off Griffin Chao to score. However, it was too little, too late as Kenya celebrated a deserved victory.
