The annual Impala Floodlit 15s pre-season tournament concluded on Saturday, marking a historic moment as Menengai Oilers lifted their first-ever trophy in the competition.

New signing Amos Obae, formerly of Nakuru RFC, was crowned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) after an impressive performance that helped secure the Oilers’ 42-3 victory in the final against Impala RFC at Impala Club. This is his second individual trophy after he was named the Rugby Super Series Player of the Tournament in May.

Despite primarily coming off the bench, Obae made a strong impact, scoring twice to lead his side to victory. This trophy marks a significant win for the Oilers, who last claimed titles in the Nationwide League and back-to-back Impala Floodlit Varsity championships in 2016 and 2017.

Abutwalib Wesonga, another key player for the Oilers, earned the Top Points Scorer award, further solidifying the team’s dominant run in the tournament. Impala RFC’s Leon Ondusu was named the Most Promising Player, an accolade earned for his impressive performance in helping Impala reach their first final since 2018.
