Kisumu RFC have re-appointed Howard Okwemba as head coach for the 2024/25 Kenya Cup season, which kicks off in mid-November.
Okwemba returns to the club, having last coached them in 2018, leading Kisumu to Kenya Cup promotion by winning the KRU Championship at Kakamega Showground. His most recent coaching stint was with South Coast Pirates in the 2019/20 KRU Championship season.
Kisumu RFC unveil Okwemba
The Brave Hearts, who avoided relegation last season, unveiled Okwemba on Saturday, praising him for his level of experience.
“We welcomed our incoming 15s coach, Howard Okwemba. Howard is no stranger to the Brave Hearts family, having steered Kisumu RFC to Kenya Cup in the 2017/18 season. He brings a wealth of experience at the top level: Head Coach at South Coast Pirates, Kisumu RFC, Western Bulls, and KCB, and assistant coach with the Kenya Simbas team.
“He was also a seasoned KCB player for 11 years. Welcome back home, coach,” Kisumu RFC announced.

Since his initial tenure, the club has seen multiple coaching changes. Former Uganda 15s coach Brian Makalama and current Menengai Oilers forwards coach Lawrence Buyachi who guided the team back to the Kenya Cup are some of the coach who were in charge.
Buyachi stepped down before the start of the season, while Oscar Okaron led the side through the 7s circuit before also departing at the end of the campaign.
