List of KCB Rugby 2023/24 award winners; Andycole Omolo win Player of Season gong

KCB Rugby have announced the 2023/24 season award winners, with Andycole Omolo being named player of the season after his impact in his debut season.

The Kenya U20 lock joined KCB from MMUST Rugby Club and immediately made his mark, debuting at the Impala Floodlit Tournament. He went on to start every match in the Kenya Cup, where KCB finished second.

Omolo also helped Kenya U20 clinch the Barthes Trophy, represented the team at the World U20 Trophy in Scotland, and captained the side at various points.

Wilhite Mususi, in his debut season, was named best forward, while scrum-half Emmanuel Opondo received the award for best back. Key leaders in the team, including scrum-half Samuel Asati, newly appointed captain Jacob Ojee, and outgoing full-back Darwin Mukidza, were also recognized for their leadership throughout the season.

The bankers are set to begin a new campaign under newly appointed head coach Oliver Mang’eni, with the Impala Floodlit Tournament serving as their first step in preparation for the new season.

Impala announced that the competition will kick off on October 19, with the semi-finals set for October 26. The tournament will conclude with the finals on November 2, paving the way for the new Kenya Cup season, which will start in November.

KCB Rugby hold the record for the most titles won in the Impala Floodlit Tournament, having secured their 10th title last year after defeating Nondies 25-23 in extra time.

This victory allowed the bankers to surpass Mean Machine, who had nine titles. KCB are also the first team to win the Floodlit Tournament five consecutive times.

Heading into last year’s edition, KCB had already won four consecutive titles, while Nondies were making back-to-back final appearances, having last won the title in 2012.

With new leadership and award-winning players at the helm, KCB are targeting another successful run in the Floodlit Tournament as they build momentum for the new Kenya Cup season.
