The 33rd edition of the Driftwood 7s is set to take place at the Mombasa Sports Club, with 16 clubs descending on the Island of Mombasa for the fourth leg of the National 7s Circuit.

Defending champions Kabras RFC will look to retain their title, having secured the championship in 2023 after defeating Menengai Oilers 10-7 in a thrilling final held in July.

Kenya Harlequin head into the competition as the most successful side, boasting 12 titles. Their first win came in 1990, followed by a remarkable three-peat from 1994 to 1996.

They also secured another streak of victories from 2003 to 2006. Quins’ last Driftwood 7s triumph was in 2016, and they enter this year’s competition as one of the most consistent teams, having reached the semifinals in every round of this season’s circuit.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Mwamba RFC are the second most successful team in the tournament’s history, with six titles. Their first win came in 2007, and their most recent victory was in 2022.

KCB Rugby, who are aiming to defend their National 7s Circuit crown, will be eyeing a fourth Driftwood 7s title, having previously won the competition in 2012, 2013, and 2019.

The now-defunct Barclays and Impala have each won the Driftwood 7s twice, while Mean Machine, USIU Martials, Ulinzi, Strathmore, Homeboyz, Nakuru, and Kabras RFC each have one title to their name.

As the competition heats up, all eyes will be on the 16 participating teams as they battle it out in the scenic coastal town of Mombasa.
