Kabras RFC, Quins, Nondies into Kakamega Ingo 7s quarters, Stallions stun Strath

Kabras RFC, Menengai Oilers, Kenya Harlequin, and Nondies have confirmed their places in the Kakamega Ingo 7s quarterfinals with a game to spare at Kakamega Showground.

The tournament saw upsets, with newly promoted Stallions shocking varsity side Strathmore Leos, and KCB being held to a 17-17 draw by Nakuru RFC.

Kakamega Ingo 7s Group A

Blak Blad bounced back from their first loss against Kabras, stunning MMUST 34-14 in the first match of the second round. Mejja Mulongo scored a hat trick while Makaka managed two tries in the second half.

Kabras were next against Western Bulls, with Griffin Chao scoring early, followed by tries from Patrick Lumumba and Jackton Osoo, leading to a 17-0 score at the break.

James Olela and new signing Patrick Kluivert added to the tally, with Victor Otieno sealing the game at 34-0, securing Kabras’ place in the final eight.

As it stands, Kabras RFC lead with six points and a point differential of 58. MMUST and Blak Blad are tied on four points, but MMUST has a superior point differential of 26 compared to Blad’s -3.

Group B

Nondies advanced to the quarters by defeating Daystar Falcons 34-12. Quins confirmed their last-eight spot with a win over Mwamba, with tries from Amon Wamalwa, their winger, and Leon Nyang, resulting in a 19-0 final score.

Quins lead the group with six points and a superior differential of 46, while Nondies have six points and a point differential of 28.

Group C

Oilers opened the scoring through Samuel Mwaura, followed by a try from Lucky Byron. Homeboyz responded with a try before the break, but Ovwamu Samuel scored twice in the second half, confirming Oilers’ place in the last eight with a 33-12 win.

Monks scored twice in the first half through Hassan Wambani, leading to a 12-0 halftime score. Kisumu pulled one back, but Monks added another try to win 19-5.

Oilers lead the pool with six points, while Catholic Monks and Homeboyz are tied on four points.

Group D

Nakuru struck first with Javan Otieno scoring twice against KCB. KCB responded with tries from Michael Wamwala and Elvis Olukusi, resulting in a 12-12 halftime score. Wamalwa scored again, pulling KCB ahead, but Felix Okoth equalized for Nakuru, leading to a 17-17 final score.

Stallions RFC upset Strathmore Leos 17-12, taking quarter-final qualification into the third round. The pool remains wide open, with KCB on top with five points, while Strathmore Leos and Stallions are tied on four points each.
