The team has already jetted to France and has begun training in preparation for the Repechage Sevens this weekend. Munyani believes with gelling and acclimatization, the team can perform at their best.

“With all players in, we have been able to gel well and acclimatize as a team. We look forward to playing our best this season,” Munyani stated.

The Ugandan squad has undergone five changes, with Shimwa Davis, Tukei Aaron, Etwau Denis, Mark Osuna, and Mubarak Wandera making way for key players’ return.

Skipper Ian Munyani, talisman Philip Wokorach, Pius Ogena, Timothy Kisiga, and Adrian Kasito have been called up, having missed the Challenger Series in Munich.

The three-day Repechage event will be held at Stade Louis II in Monaco, featuring 12 women’s and 12 men’s teams competing for the chance to represent their countries at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

In the men’s competition, the participating teams include Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Great Britain, Hong Kong China, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Spain, Tonga, and Uganda.

South Africa’s Blitzboks are strong contenders, having won the first round of HSBC SVNS 2024 in Dubai. Canada, Great Britain, and Spain, all core teams on the top-level rugby sevens circuit, are also formidable opponents.
