USA stay afloat in SVNs Series; Samoa relegated

USA and Spain retain their spot in the World Sevens Series after winning their qualifier matches played in Madrid on Sunday.

To maintain their core status, USA defeated 2009/10 Series Champions Samoa 40-19. Orrin Bizer, Lucas Lacamp, and Perry Baker all bagged braces in the win as Samoa’s stay in the top tier ended.

Spain also retained their place in the Series as they defeated Canada 22-14. Canada avoided relegation last season after beating Kenya 7s in the final. Juan Ramos had a brace while Manu Moreno and Jaime Manteca had a try each.

Bautista Basso, Juan Manuel Tafernaberry, and Guillermo Lijtenstein’s tries send Uruguay to the Series for the first time.

They join Kenya 7s, who made a triumphant return to the World Sevens Series after a remarkable performance that saw them defeat Germany 33-15 in a decisive match.

Shujaa had been relegated last year following a loss to Canada and were eager to rejoin the top tier after a season’s absence.

With this victory, Shujaa now shift focus to the third consecutive Olympics, having registered appearances in both 2016 and 2021. They qualified for the upcoming Olympics by defeating South Africa in the Africa Men’s 7s games held in Zimbabwe.
