The curtains on the round robin phase of Rugby Super Series came to a close when the four sides convened at the Bull Ring, Kakamega.
The Cheetahs had to relinquish their top spot to Lions after they went down 27-23 to Rhinos on Saturday. Cheetahs now sit at position two with 9 points.
The Lions surged on top of the standings after they edged Buffaloes 20-5. Oliver Mang’eni’s charges have now amassed 9 points, same points as Cheetahs, but the Lions have a superior goal difference.
Rhinos find themselves on the third spot after they fought hard to claim a 27-23 win over Cheetahs thanks to a last minute try by Paul Mutsami. Rhinos close the round robin phase with 5 points.
Buffaloes are last on the log with 4 points. The Max Adaka charges failed to impress on their home turf as they succumbed to a 20-5 defeat in a game that ended prematurely.
This means, the Lions and Cheetahs will square it out in the finals as Rugby Super Series returns to Nairobi in the final day. Rhinos on the other hand will face off with the Buffaloes.
This year’s Rugby Super Series follows a round-robin format, with matches taking place across Nairobi, Nakuru, and Kakamega over three match days.
