Newly established rugby team based at Eldoret Polytechnic Project 61 had an impressive debut 2023/24 season despite facing their first seasonal defeat in the Championship qualifiers semi-finals playoff against Zetech Oaks.
Coach Shaddon Munoko attributes their triumph to meticulous planning and strategic execution since the team’s inception.

“Our initial aim was to emerge as the Rift Valley region champions and secure a spot in the playoffs. This season has been a testament to our capabilities and has served as a springboard for future achievements,” he explained.
Munoko elaborated on the strategies employed, emphasizing the importance of a robust recruitment strategy that bolstered the team’s strength.

“Being a new team, we defied the odds by assembling a talented roster and executing our game plan effectively,” he remarked.
In addition to strategic planning, Munoko highlighted the importance of fostering cohesion within the team.
“Open communication, constructive feedback, and empowering each team member to take ownership of their responsibilities were paramount,” he stated.
“Creating a supportive environment where every player feels valued and encouraged to contribute their ideas has been instrumental in our success,” he concluded.

Looking ahead to the next season, Munoko expressed optimism and determination to build on their achievements.
“Maintaining an unbeaten streak requires strategic planning, consistent performance evaluation, and adaptability,” he noted.
“We will continue to focus on refining our tactics and cultivating resilience, flexibility, and a positive mindset to overcome challenges and achieve sustained success,” he affirmed.
In Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Project 61’s remarkable debut season has garnered attention as the standout success story in recent years, eclipsing even the most established teams in the region such as Eldoret RFC (formed in 1924), Moi Arsonists (formed in 1983), and UoE Trojans (formed in 2009).
