Vihiga County set pace as they planted trees to promote climate change and also setting light to the yet to commence Vihiga County Secondary School Rugby 15s games on the 6th of March 2023.
The Kenya Rugby Referees Association Vihiga county officials have aligned themselves with the United Nations sustainable development goal 15 in a tree planting activity.
The Sustainable development goal which seeks to protect,restore and promote the conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems in alignment with the World Rugby Keep Rugby Clean Campaigns.
This activity was set as a demonstration of their commitment to positive climate action has seen coaches,teachers,school team rugby captains planting trees before the kick off of this year’s Vihiga County Secondary Schools Sports Championship competitions at the vihiga boys high school grounds.
The Western Rugby Referees Society (WRRS) manager Mr. Tiberious Maina has expressed his gratitude to all those who took part in the activity.
“It’s an honor to be part of the team as we align ourselves with the Keep Rugby Clean campaign as we have planted trees as we anticipate the County games kick off,” highlighted Maina.
“Am also taking this chance to thank the County sports office,vihiga boys administration,kegoye junior school for supplying the seedlings and also Momanyi Daniel Nyang’au, Nimrod Tsisaga and Sammy Otimo for coming up with the initiative,” he expressed.
“I will also pass my regards to the coaches, captains and all those present for participating in the event and I will also encourage other sports to borrow a leaf,” added Maina as he concluded his interview with Scrummage Africa.

Pool A: Ebubayi High, Senende Boys, Chavakali Boys, Esalwa High School.
Pool B: Vihiga School, Ebusiloli Secondary, Mbale Boys, Hobunaka secondary and Nyang’ori Boys.
