KCB Rugby kicked off the season with a commanding victory, thrashing returning Nondies 45-8 in the Kenya Cup opening match at KCB Sports Club.
The match came after the intensity of the Impala Floodlit final, where KCB secured a narrow victory of 25-23 in extra time.
Despite expectations of a closely contested match at Ruaraka, KCB took control early on. Nondies initially grabbed the lead with a penalty, but KCB swiftly responded with a converted try.
Nondies momentarily regained the lead with Wafula Sankara’s try, yet the bankers quickly reclaimed the advantage with a seven-pointer. Austin Sikutwa then scored his maiden try for the club, securing a 19-8 lead at halftime.

The momentum continued in the second half, with KCB dominating. Mike Kimwele’s try opened the scoring, earning them a bonus point.
Lionel Ajelity and Bob Muhati added their debut tries, extending the lead to 38-8. KCB sealed the victory with a converted try, demonstrating their prowess on the field while preventing Nondies from scoring in the match.
Meanwhile, at RFUEA Grounds, Kenya Harlequin made a brilliant start to the season, overpowering Catholic Monks with a convincing 48-8 win. Both teams secured five points in their opening matches, joining Kabras and Oilers with flying starts and maximum points.
