Kenya International Bernadette Olesia has passed on, her club Northern Suburbs has announced.
Olesia died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Women’s Hospital. The club described Olesia’s death as a great loss and said it would announce more details regarding her funeral arrangements.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the demise of our Captain, Bernadette Olesia, who succumbed to illness at Nairobi Women’s Hospital. We have lost a great player in the Kenya women’s rugby fraternity,” the club announced.
“The team is in shock and mourns this great loss. We will share more details regarding funeral contributions and send off after liaising with her family. Kindly keep her family in prayers at this difficult time. May her soul Rest in Eternal Peace,” the club added.
Olesia was part of the Kenya Lionesses squad that booked a place in the WXV matches slated for Dubai after finishing second in the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup competition. This was after making her debut in 2018.
The lock was the Northern Suburbs Ladies Rugby team and worked at Shamas Foundation.
