Kenya U20 concluded the World Rugby U20 Trophy group stage with a strong performance, securing a 22-16 victory over Hong Kong China in their final pool match.
With this crucial win, Kenya will now rise to the third position in the group standings and qualify to compete in the fifth-place playoffs.
Kenya U20 start off
The match kicked off on an impressive note for Chipu, with Mike Oduor scoring a try just five minutes into the game. Eddy Murage successfully converted the try, giving Kenya an early lead.
However, Hong Kong’s Dylan Mccann responded with a penalty, and Tyler Mcnutt scored a try for the visitors, with Mccann adding the extra points. This gave Hong Kong a 10-7 lead by the 13th minute.
Murage managed to score another penalty for Kenya, levelling the score at 10-10 after 22 minutes of play.
Joe Denmark from Hong Kong received a yellow card, and Kenya skillfully capitalized on their numerical advantage as birthday boy Jacktone Omondi crossed over for a try, putting Kenya in the lead with a score of 15-10 four minutes before halftime.
The second half saw Mike Oduor score another try for Kenya, which was successfully converted, extending their lead to 22-16. Hong Kong added six points through penalties, they couldn’t overcome Kenya’s determined performance.
