Kenya 7s whipped Japan 40-7 to reach the Singapore 7s ninth place playoffs with eight points up for grabs.
The day started off well for Damian McGrath’s charges as they managed to defeat his former team, Canada, and were hoping for another victory against Japan to secure valuable points this weekend.
Shujaa began the match brightly, with George Ooro Angeyo scoring the opening try within the first minute of play. Two minutes later, Alvin Otieno added another try which was successfully converted, giving them a comfortable lead of 14-0.
Although Taiga Ishida managed to pull one back for Japan, Ooro’s second try, converted once again, left Kenya with a comfortable 21-7 lead at halftime.
After the break, Brian Tanga set up Nelson, who then released the ball to Anthony Omondi in support, resulting in another try which was converted, extending their lead to 28-7.
Johnstone Olindi scored in the 13th minute, and John Okoth’s powerful run allowed him to break away for the final try, which was also converted, resulting in a final score of 40-7 in favor of Kenya.
In the ninth place playoffs, Kenya 7s will face the winner of the match between South Africa and Spain at 13:07.
