Butula High School, are the new champions of the Western Region Secondary Schools 15s rugby after defeating Vihiga High School 12-7 in a tightly contested final Mundika High School.
Butula Boys High School earned their place in the final after favorites Koyonzo, were disqualified from participating in the tournament due to fielding an ineligible player.
Koyonzo Secondary School, who were eyeing the maiden Western region 15s rugby title had beaten Butula Boys High School in the semis 12-5.
After Koyonzo’s elimination, Butula faced off in what was repeat of the opening match of the competition which ended 0-0.
Butula led by Libondo Shimenga took a 5-0 lead to the break. The second half Butula grabbed a converted try for a 12-0 lead before Vihiga trimmed it by a seven pointer.
Butula join St Patrick’s Iten, St Anthony, Kwale, Kisii School and Mang’u on the list of team that have qualified for the Nationals.
The take the title which was won by Kakamega in 2019.
