Mombasa RFC staged a brilliant performance to see off visiting Molo 41-12 in an early morning fixture played at the Mombasa Sports Club.
The win propels Mombasa to the next round of championship promotion fixtures next week.
Molo went ahead early from a penalty before the home team replied almost immediately afterwards. Tommy happily latched onto the restart kick before former Mwamba ace ElvisNamusasi would dot down in the corner a few phases later.
Mombasa would then concede a penalty just inside their forty, the visitors taking full advantage to go ahead.
Dumes would strike back immediately after a series of infringements by Molo inside their red zone. A long pass from Namusasi proved sufficient to stretch the visitors’ defence thin to allow Eliud Mulakoli a simple step and touchdown. Namusasi failed to add the extras for a 10-6 lead.
Mombasa would extend their lead immediately from the Water break, Lazarus Okello taking a quick tap to catch the unsuspecting Molo defence napping. Brian Opar would successfully add the twos to make it 17-6.
Molo then cut the deficit to eight points from the boot, Uno behind the boot once again.
Mombasa’s midfield pairing of Mulusa and Mulakoli would then dot down between the posts, Opar making it three out of three from the boot to make it 31-9 going into the sheds.
The second half turned out to be a low scoring one with Namusasi scoring twice and Molo converting one penalty for a final score of 41-12.
