The reigning National Schools 7s Champions Koyonzo High School, prepared for the upcoming Kenya Secondary School games by winning both the St Mary’s Yala opens 7s and 15s titles.
In the 7s competition, Koyonzo put on a dominant performance to defeat hosts St Mary’s Yala 40-0 in the final. The team’s scorers included Kelvin Maiche, Darell Omondi, Brandon Mulefu, Jackson Siketa, Shakur, and Jibril Lugonzo.
In the 15s competition, Koyonzo retained their title by beating St Mary’s Yala in the final game of the round-robin competition. The team secured a 14-0 win thanks to converted tries from Contango and Mike Mureithi.
Reflecting on the team’s success, their coach Eliud Okwemba expressed satisfaction with their performance, saying “Having now won two trophies in Yala, I feel we have picked up well from where we left off after winning the Bradley tournament in Kamusinga,” he told the Scrummage Africa.
Kakamega, Vihiga, St Anthony, Kabula, Kisumu Boys, Chianda, Ringa, Sigalame, Sawagongo, Bondo. Butere, Odera kango were some of the teams that particpated.
In Central Kenya, Butula won the Bush Opens beating Nairobi School 51-0. Butula beat Kahuho 49-0 in the semis and had earlier won 50-0 and 48-0 over Makueni and Ongata Rongai.
