KCB Rugby picked maximum points on the road, whipping Menengai Oilers 62-15 in a Kenya Cup match played at Nakuru ASK Showground.

A highly contested match was expected as KCB headed to Nakuru with the goal of avenging their 24-18 semi-final defeat from the previous season’s Kenya Cup, putting an end to their dominant run.

The Bankers, however, controlled the clash as they put up strong fight to hand Oilers the second consecutive loss of the season.

Oilers Geoffrey Ominde successfully slotted in the first penalty kick for a 3-0 lead but KCB responded when Samuel Asati went over the line, with Darwin Mukidza adding the extras, bringing the score to 7-3 in favor of KCB.

As the game continued, Mukidza showed off his skills, selling a dummy to beat the Oilers defence and made his way under the posts. He then added the conversion, increasing KCB’s lead to 14-3.

Asati then returned to the scoresheet with the third try that put the game at 21-3. Mukidza added a penalty for a comfortable lead for the bankers heading to the break.

On return from the break, the bankers debutant Festus Shiasi bagged two tries that stretched their lead to 36-3. Esau Otieno scored the sixth try of the game for a 43-3 lead after Isaac Njoroge conversion.

Griffin Musila came off the bench to set up fly-half Brian Wahinya who landed the seventh try that took the scores to 50-3.

Oilers pulled back with a converted try for a 50-10 scoreline. Peter Waitere widened the gap for KCB as he scored off the scrum for a 55-10.

Oilers landed another try but KCB scored and converted for a 62-15 win to move to 45 points. They face second placed Kabras next weekend.
