Kenya 7s will face Canada in the Cape Town 7s 13th place playoff after a 19-5 win over Uganda in the 13th place semis played on Sunday.
The two sides had failed to pick wins in their opening four matches and this East African Derby was the opportunity for each side to pick the first win in Cape Town.
A cagey first half saw Kenya take a 5-0 advantage to the break, thanks to Anthony Omondi’s unconverted try which came in the final minutes of the half.
Daniel Taabu joined the scoresheet early on in the second half and Omondi added the extras for a 12-0 lead. Uganda responded through Timothy Kisiga’s unconverted try before Taabu returned to the scoresheet with his second try that Omondi converted for a 19-5.
Uganda exit the competition without a single win while Kenya 7s head to the 13th place playoffs which will commence at 18:14.
