Kenya Rugby Union Director of Rugby Paul Odera has expressed confidence that the ongoing selection process will produce a Kenya 7s squad capable of reclaiming its place in the top division of the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Odera, alongside national team selectors led by Elijah Toili, head coach Kevin Wambua, Blak Blad coach Bernard Rotich, and Oscar Osir, unveiled a 48-man provisional squad set to form the core of Shujaa, Morans, and the Kenya U20 sides.

The teams will feature in upcoming tournaments, including the Safari 7s and the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series.

Speaking after the announcement, Odera, former head coach of both Kenya Simbas and Kenya U20,  described this as an exciting period for Kenyan rugby.

“This is an exciting time for the men’s team as Shujaa prepare for the 2025-2026 international sevens season. The provisional squad is an excellent blend of youth and experience,”  Odera said.

“I am pleased to see that the selectors and head coach have recognised the performances of players from a broad spectrum of clubs in the National Sevens Circuit.
