Former Kenya 7s skipper Andrew Amonde is the Head of Athletic Performance at Kenya Cup side KCB Rugby.
Amonde, who retired from club rugby after the 2021/22 season, immediately transitioned to the technical bench and served as the 7s coach. He also holds the Strength and Conditioning Coach role for Kenya 7s.
Amonde is part of a star-studded technical bench that includes former player Peter Kilonzo, who was part of the club’s golden generation that secured four consecutive titles.

Other key members include Darwin Mukidza, who serves as Backs Coach and Assistant Coach, replacing Mark Mshilla, and Dennis Mwanja, who has been retained as Forwards Coach. Amonde is assisted in his role by former Maseno coach Sebastian Makalek Ochieng.

Amonde enjoyed a stellar career with Kenya 7s, captaining the team from 2012. He featured in over 350 matches in the World 7s Series, making him the second most-capped Kenyan player after Collins Injera. Amonde scored over 61 tries during his illustrious career.
Some of his key moments include leading Kenya 7s to their historic Singapore 7s Cup triumph—the country’s first-ever Series Cup title. Under his leadership, Shujaa reclaimed the Africa Men’s 7s title, qualified for the Olympics, and secured survival during the challenging 2018/19 season. He also captained Kenya to a fourth-place finish at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens held in Russia.
Amonde’s tenure saw Kenya 7s reach several finals, including the 2018 Hong Kong 7s, where they finished runners-up after a 24-12 loss to Fiji, and the Vancouver 7s, where they were defeated 31-12 by Fiji. He also led the team in two Olympic Games, in 2016 and 2020.
