Kenya 7s responded to their heart-wrenching 24-19 extra-time loss to France in spectacular fashion, defeating South Africa 22-17 in a pulsating encounter.
The victory was particularly sweet, as South Africa entered the match with five consecutive tournament wins and had earlier brushed aside Australia 17-0.
Shujaa showed intent from the opening whistle, with Kevin Wekesa powering over the try line after receiving a quick pass from Samuel Asati. The early try sparked jubilant cheers from Kenyan fans in the stadium, setting the tone for an intense showdown.
Minutes later, Amaitsa’s precise kick was perfectly chased down by Patrick Odongo, who grounded Kenya’s second try. A Television Match Official (TMO) review confirmed the score, and a successful conversion pushed Kenya further ahead.
